Experience > Designer
This article talks about how the youth of China is shifting from designer bags and luxury glasses to enjoyable experiences that create memories that they remember over the course of their lifetime. This is primarily because of two reasons - one, since most luxury products like bags and glasses are easily duped, people tend to go for the cheaper option - this is also linked to the second reason, which is, unemployment rates in China are rising. It’s harder for young people to find jobs. The reason China’s unemployment rates aren’t completely through the roof is that a lot of young people are opting for gig jobs, such as driving taxis, delivering food, mopping floors, etc. since they need money. Also, I would like to point out that experiences in China are very cheap. For example, a tour of Tiananmen square is free. Even visiting many historic sites and temples are inexpensive. Street food is also another attractive part of Chinese culture. You could be walking down the street, and see a mochi shop or a noodle shop, and eat there for almost nothing. To sum it all up, China offers a wide range of experiences, which could range from free to expensive. On the contrary, designer bags require stable jobs, which have become increasingly difficult to find in China.
